Chapter Eight

“So?” Ruthie asked her friend, nudging him with her shoulder.

“So what?” Rich smiled broadly, knowing exactly what she was referring to.

“Oh…don’t you even try that. Not with me!” she all but shrieked.

Rich laughed, but still said nothing more.

“Rich Miller, if you don’t give I swear I’m going to…I don’t know what exactly, but I will think of something very evil to do to you.” Ruthie stopped, her hands clenched into fists at her sides.

“Okay, okay.” Rich laughed again. “It was ah-mazing!” Rich stopped and turned to face his friend. “I had the best sex of my life.”

“What!” Ruthie cried. “Are you fucking kidding me?”

“Nope.” Rich smiled broadly. “It really was incredible, Ruthie. I won’t go into all the gory details, but we had so much sex…well let’s just say that I more than made up for the dry spell I’ve had lately.”

“Oh. My. God.” She was still frozen to the spot. “You’re serious.”

“Oh hell yeah, I’m serious.” Rich reached out and pulled her arm to get her moving again.

“Are you guys, like, dating?”

“I don’t know what we are exactly. I’ve not been able to catch up with him since I dropped him off yesterday,” Rich answered, still pulling her along. “We’re going to be late if you don’t come on.”

“I’m still trying to process all this,” she said, shaking her head. “Johnny Milloway, star football player, big time jock, rumored stud, is sleeping with my best friend.” She stopped for a second, her eyelashes batting madly. “I’m just having a little trouble wrapping my head around this one.”

“Hey, what I am? Chicken feed?”

“You know what I mean.” She frowned. “It’s more expected for a diver to be gay than a star football player and you know it.”

“Okay, I’ll give you that one,” Rich said, somewhat reluctantly.

“Rich, if this gets out, Johnny could really have a hard time of it,” Ruthie said quietly.

“Yeah, I’ve thought about that.”

“Are you ready to be the closet boyfriend? To not be…open?”

“Ruthie, I’ve not had much chance to think that far ahead,” Rich answered as they walked into class, thus ending the conversation.
